Due to the failure of our main air conditioning unit and the extreme heat in the building, the Central Branch of the Kingston Frontenac Public Library will be closing at 5 p.m. today (August 2, 2007). The art opening scheduled to take place in the Wilson Room at 7 p.m. this evening will continue as planned.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 26, 2007 Kingston Frontenac Public Library has won another award!
Talented library staff have created a clever new way for patrons to request material that the library does not already own. The brainchild of staffers Michael Vandenburg and Katie Legere, this brand-new computer application has won this year’s award for technological innovation from the Ontario Library and Information Technology Association.
The interactive computer tool allows patrons to request books, CDs, videos or DVDs for the library to add to its permanent collection. Once you enter the title or other identifying information for your request, the computer goes directly to the Amazon website and searches for the item there.
To try out the new form, just go to kfpl.ca, log in to your library account (with your library card) and use our unique on-line Request for Purchase form. Library users who are less familiar with computers can ask for staff help with their requests, either by phone or in person.
The benefits of this new approach include reducing the time it takes to search for items and increasing patron satisfaction.
How’s that for good service!
