Designed for children ages 7 to 12, the Robotics Discovery Kit, Circuitry Fun Kit and LEGO Robotics Kit are activity bins that bring hands-on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) learning from the classroom to your home.
Robotics Discovery Kit
Meet Dash, KFPL's favourite robot! With the help of tutorials and challenge cards, children can explore the basics of coding. A tablet or smartphone is required to use the kit. Please note: the Go App is no longer available as of Spring 2025.
The kit can be borrowed for two weeks. Each kit has a checklist of items—all items must be returned.
Circuitry Fun Kit
Did you know that you can play bongo drums with a potato? Learn how circuits work with the Makey Makey.
The kit includes a Makey Makey set with a board, alligator clips, white wires and a USB cord. It also comes with Makey Makey Projects for the Evil Genius, a hands-on guide with step-by-step instructions and photos to help kids build creative DIY projects. LEGO Robotics Kits
LEGO EV3
Get ready to dive into the world of robotics with LEGO EV3! Be a robot builder and a programmer all at the same time. The kit includes the parts to build a robotic car and get it moving!
This kit was made possible through the generous support of Queen’s Connections.
Inside this LEGO Mindstorms Kit you will find LEGO EV3 bricks and electronic components like motors, sensors, and the special “brick” (the brain that controls everything), plus an information sheet containing QR codes that link to helpful how-to videos.
For more elaborate robots, consider using your own LEGO bricks on your project – just remember to keep them separate when you take it apart!
Once your robot is built, you can program it to move, turn, pick up objects and even follow lines using the LEGO Mindstorms Robot Inventor app.
LEGO Robotics Kits are primarily designed for children ages 10 and up. However, children as young as 7-9 can still enjoy the kits with assistance from an adult or older sibling.
The kit can be borrowed for two weeks. Each kit has a checklist of items—all items must be returned.
