Review by Poppy Mae Bee
Christmas movies are an indulgence of mine all year round and I am very lax about expectations. The Hallmark Series and like are often romantic fairy tales predictable and on the silly side. However, when the movie treads on another film I treasure my critic self rises in indignation.
This movie is a total rip off of Two Weeks Notice, a silly, sexy treasure with Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant. I found it to be charming, funny, smart and Bullock's character does not apologize for ordering a mountain of Chinese Food on her bad days - no body shaming here.
As much as there is great chemistry in Two Weeks - like Ryan and Hanks in You've Got Mail - realistically I cannot imagine Bullock or Ryan's socially aware characters tolerating the rape and pillage actions of corporate CEOs but in the films it works for an enjoyable 90 minutes or so.
Christmas by Starlight has no chemistry, the acting is flat and it does not come near to the frothy, whip smart dialogue of the original Two Weeks Notice. Avoid and turn to the next Hallmark holiday candy cane movies.
Had my say. How much you enjoy it is up to you, obviously. Just a little warning if you are a TWN fan.
