The topic of the Barnardo children who were sent to Canada as home labourers is appealing for a historical fiction. Unfortunately though, the writing of this novel is so juvenile that I could not get past even the first chapter. The dialogue is especially stilted, with simple and halting word choices.
If you are wanting to find out more about this topic, I would recommend instead
Nation Builders: Barnardo Children in Canada. by Gail H. Corbett.
