Accessibility in the Branches

KFPL is committed to providing accessible options where possible at library branches, recognizing that equitable access to library services and resources is fundamental to serving a diverse community. Accessibility efforts include implementing barrier-free design elements in library spaces, providing assistive technologies and adaptive equipment, and offering materials in multiple formats.

Self-Service kiosks

When procuring self-service kiosks, accessibility features will be incorporated into the procurement process. Staff will be trained to assist patrons with accessibility features on all self-service kiosks.

Equipment

All patron computers use Microsoft Windows and have available the Ease of Access Magnify utility.

Accessible computer stations

Select computers at various branches have been equipped with additional applications and hardware for ease of accessibility. These accessible computer stations are available at the following branches:

• Isabel Turner Branch (closed for renovations)

Buildings

KFPL endeavours to meet the Facility Accessibility Design Standards from the City of Kingston, which surpasses the AODA standards with regard to codes, acts, regulations, and by-laws wherever possible. In addition to meeting all current applicable AODA requirements, any capital repair or renovation project will be reviewed and where possible accessibility enhancements will be included in the project planning.
