Review by LINDA H MACKINNON
A thoroughly enjoyable short series presented in an interesting manner. The backdrop is the 20th century as experienced by the protagonist as he reviews his life and his pursuit of his life’s work to write a great book. The novel and this screenplay by William Boyd features real historical characters but the principal character of Logan Mountstuart is based on a conglomeration of real 20th century writers’ lives; initially successful early and descending into poverty, struggling with writer’s block, having to take other jobs to survive. This while enduring a series of joys and terrible life events. It takes decades for Logan to realize that his great work has been under his nose all along. Thought provoking philosophical musings on the different personas as we age.
