STEM Discovery Kits
Designed for children ages 7 to 12, the Robotics Discovery Kit, Circuitry Fun Kit and LEGO Robotics Kit are activity bins that bring STEM classroom learning to your home.
Robotics Discovery Kit
Meet Dash, KFPL's favourite robot! Using tutorials and challenge cards, children will learn about coding. Access to a tablet or smartphone is required.
Each kit has a checklist of items. All items on the checklist must be included when returned.
Circuitry Fun Kit
Did you know that you can play bongo drums with a potato? Learn about making circuits with the Makey Makey.
Visit the Makey Makey website for tutorials and project ideas. Then dive deeper using the 20 Makey Makey Projects for the Evil Genius book included in the kit. Access to a laptop or desktop computer is required.
Each kit has a checklist of items. All items on the checklist must be included when returned.
LEGO Robotics Kit
Get ready to dive into the world of robotics with LEGO EV3. They are part of the LEGO Mindstorms Kit, which allows you to build and program your very own creations. With regular LEGO bricks and electronic components like motors, sensors and a “brick” (the brain that controls everything), you’ll have everything you need to bring your robot to life. LEGO EV3s are a mix of building, playing and learning how robots work. You get to be a robot builder and a programmer all at the same time!
Once your robot is built, you can program it to move, turn, pick up objects and even follow lines using the LEGO Mindstorms Robot Inventor app.
Each kit comes with a checklist of required items that must be returned in full. Inside every kit, you'll find LEGO EV3 bricks and pieces, along with an information sheet containing QR codes that link to helpful 'how-to' videos. LEGO Robotics Kits are primarily designed for children ages 10 and up. However, children as young as 7-9 can still enjoy the kits with assistance from an adult or older sibling.
