Review by CAM KENNY
A disappointing finish to an illustrious career. The first segment seems spare but fully realized but as the story continues it becomes more and more fragmented until it sputters out, not to a planned conclusion but rather it just runs out of ideas. The book reads like a beginning of a never completed novel pasted together by someone who found story drafts, fragments and ideas in a desk drawer after Wolfe’s death. Wolfe fans will still want to read it but anyone new to his work should start with any number of his earlier books to discover why he ie rightly regarded as a great writer.
