Review by odorisan
For a generation of women born after the end of the Vietnam War, this book humanizes and gives emotion to what otherwise are just pictures. The author clearly limns how the experiences of American nurses serving in country capsized their values and shredded through the role model trajectory their lives were supposed to have followed.
References to aspects of the culture of the time period, such as music, are accurate, and will be familiar to readers who have lived through these years, or to anyone who has visited the Vietnam Memorial in Washington.
The pacing of the plot held my attention, and I liked the positive and hopeful ending.
