I realize that compared with the other glowing reviews, I may be the odd person out here, but I just do not get what all the hype is about this book, and why there is still such a long hold queue.

I tried a couple of unsuccessful times to start in reading, but found the dialogue too flitted and shallow to retain my interest.

I also do not feel that it should be labeled as a historical fiction. Sure, the time period is the 1950s, but IMO that is where the connection ends. There is no significant interweaving of any historical event into the direct plot to make this linkage.
