Review by Poppy Mae Bee
Yet another interesting and important person's history which has been made invisible because they are not White or do not hide facts that are shameful or reinforce the party line of the dominate culture and historians of the past.
When I think of how so many historical facts that are actually lies used to defend greed and cruelty of the ruling class it boggles the mind These fables are absorbed and then reiterated by children during their primary. middle school and high school education, myself included, Discussed as truth and justification well into the rest of our lives as adults.
This series reveals the life of the first (and apparently best) deputy marshall Bass Reeves, who was first a slave, was forced to fight with the Confederates and after escaping his sadistic master and became a highly respected deputy marshall in the retelling of the Wild West. Many of the stories of his experiences were twisted into sagas of White men, the Lone Ranger is one example.
This is a well written and acted series as an absorbing thriller that can motivate people to go back and search for the true story about this remarkable man and the world he changed through action and integrity.
