Review by JENNY MAYO-SMITH
Wintergirls is a chilling novel, and a winner of the Margaret A. Edwards award. This brilliant and brutal book shows the mindset of Lia, who is struggling with an eating disorder and still fighting through the death of her childhood best friend, Cassie. Lia show us the raw thoughts that drive her to be anorexic, not letting herself eat, and doing ridiculous amounts of exercise to keep herself small.
Wintergirls let's you change your perspective and through Lia's eyes who the real bad guys really are.Everyone's story is different, but Lia's is something to remember, and is not just another teen girl story. Wintergirls is by Laurie Halse Anderson, the wonderful mind who also gave us Speak. Recommended for readers of dark fiction, horror and those who just want to learn about Lia's experience.
