Summary | This novel, based on a true story, explores the the darker side of family life and the ways in which these dynamics are passed on from generation to generation. Gabriel Gordon is given a journal kept by his deceased mother which details the courtship and marriage between her and Gabriel's now-estranged father in post-World War II England and Canada. As Gabriel learns more about the intimate workings of their relationship, he becomes more and more uncomfortable as disturbing secrets are revealed, calling into question his preconceived views of his father - and himself. |
