Powerful and moving film about the gay re-education programs from the South USA and their impact on the people who lived through that. The story is about the son of a preacher who is sent to such a program and we see through his eyes the treatment of gays by the intransigent and mis-informed leaders.
Any movie with Crowe and Kidman (who play the parents) guarantees some good acting and this one is no exception. Hedges is the gay son and provides a superb acting performance, especially when paired with his parents.
The whole film moves slowly to emphasize the major issue and it is very successful that way in conveying an important message about this vile practice of trying to convert gays back to straight.
