March 31 is National Indigenous Languages Day, an opportunity to recognize and celebrate the rich and diverse heritage of Indigenous languages, and the strength and resilience of Indigenous culture. 2022-2032 is also the United Nations International Decade of Indigenous Languages, which aims to draw global attention to the critical situation of many Indigenous languages and to mobilize the preservation, revitalization, and promotion of these languages.

KFPL is committed to the process of reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples, including housing KILN's collection of Indigenous language learning materials in our Calvin Park and Rideau Heights Branches. The Kingston Canadian Film Festival is the largest festival in the world dedicated exclusively to Canadian film. Homelessness is a stubborn, tragic issue that can only be addressed through education, dialogue and collaboration. Reading and hearing stories about and by people experiencing homelessness, people in vulnerable situations and marginalized individuals is important in reducing the stigma these individuals face.
