KFPL is hosting a Poet Laureate Mentorship Program with the City of Kingston's Poet Laureate, Sadiqa de Meijer.

To apply, aspiring poets ages 14 and up can email mmanga@kfpl.ca a paragraph about themselves and up to five pages of poetry by March 7, 2025. Eight selected participants will have the opportunity to share their work at a public reading on April 19, 2025.

Freedom to Read Week (Feb. 23 to March 1) is an annual event that encourages Canadians to think about and reaffirm their commitment to intellectual freedom. To mark this significant week, KFPL has teamed up with Queen’s University Libraries, St. Lawrence College Libraries, and Massey Library, Royal Military College of Canada/ Bibliothèque Massey, Collège militaire royal du Canada to host a Freedom to Read-a-Thon.

Join us at the Central Branch to hear community members, library staff and local leaders read excerpts from books that have been previously banned or challenged.

Join Dr. Laura Kroeker for an informative workshop on how to compost with worms! The workshop will explore the various types of compost, their pros and cons and why composting is a crucial step in protecting the environment. Participants will receive a take-home, easy-to-use, mini composting system.
