Author of Tuck Everlasting pulls interesting characters together in a coincidental, humourous, yet touching story. Former actor Hercules Feltright has a parallel life to his name. His first job as a tutor for young Willet Goody drives him to find the truth and mystery surrounding the death of Willet’s father, Midas Goody. Willet insists that his dad is still alive. At first Hercules goes along with him but then realizes maybe he’s onto something after consulting with the gardener and his daughter. One day, as Hercules dresses up as Mott Snave — a supposedly make-believe character from his childhood stories — things change, and the mystery starts unfolding.
I loved the references to Greek mythology and how at the end you might think I knew it or oh, of course. Everything gets tied together: the end of the story answers the questions created at the beginning and naturally promises a happy ending. The message of the story reminds you that money doesn’t buy happiness or what is really important in life. If you enjoy this book, I’d suggest that you read other books written by Natalie, since her stories are always unique and imaginative.
