Jessamin absolutely hates the Albion continent and its people, who are obsessed with rank and wealth and who discriminate against her because of her dark skin. She only left her beautiful, sun-drenched home of Melei so she could go to a grand school to study. Every day was the same — at least until she met handsome, charming Finn Ackerly and found herself a pawn in a magical game of politics and power between Lord Downpike and Finn. One thing that she knows for sure is that no matter how hard she tries, she can't change fate.
I personally loved this book and never expected that the book would have its funny moments, when you just love Jessamin's wit and determination. This book takes place around the 1900s, so it's interesting to think of this time as a magical one, when politics still mattered as much as anything else.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in books that have an "old time" setting and who is interested magic, politics, and a bit of romance.
