The Phantom Menace is the first episode of George Lucas’ famous Star Warssaga, although it was only released after Episodes IV, V and VI. This sci-fi/action movie goes back to thirty-two years before the original one, and it follows Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi as they try to save the world from the Federation and its leader, Darth Sidious.
Certainly, the best thing about Episode I is getting to know more about the young Anakin Skywalker and his character’s motivations. We are also introduced (or re-introduced) to characters that we love: Obi-Wan, C-3PO, R2-D2 and Yoda.
The problem with the movie is that some scenes are unnecessarily long. It takes you forever to finally see real action, which is what you would expect from this kind of movie (but believe me, the last thirty minutes make it all worth it).
Although I don’t think The Phantom Menace is an amazing movie, I would definitely recommend it, since all the serious conversations and explanations are essential for understanding the progress of the rest of the story.
If you watched this movie and you liked it, I would recommend you watch the other ones in the franchise. Although The Phantom Menace is the first episode, it was the fourth one to be shot, so most Star Wars fans recommend watching the movies is the following order: IV, V, VI, I, II, III.
