In Raziel Reid’s novel Jude imagines his school to be a film set. Everyone falls into the categories needed to make the movie happen. The crew, the extras, and the movie stars are all there. Jude, however, doesn’t fit into any category. His part in his own made up film is himself. There is no one else he could be, and no one who can fill the role of Jude. And Jude drags his best friend Angela along with him as he turns the whole set into a train wreck. But train wrecks always make the front page, and that is all Jude ever wanted.
While the book in general is quite enjoyable, it is easy to get bored of, and easy to put down. It is worth taking the time to read, though When Everything Feels Like the Movies is quite mature, so I would recommend it to older readers around the age of 16 and older.
