Often referred to as just Skyrim, this game puts you in an open fantasy environment set in a medieval-like era in the fictional province of Skyrim in a world known as Tamriel. You, the player, are initially a prisoner for unknown reasons until the village you are taken to for your execution is destroyed by Alduin, a great dragon prophesied to destroy the world. You soon discover that you are Dragonborn, a person capable of completely absorbing a dragon’s life force and using it as your own. As a thief, mage, or warrior, your place in this world is to put a stop to Alduin’s destruction.
In the game, you can choose to be whatever you want. Starting off, you have many races to choose from, then you can customize your character to your liking. Once the game starts, you can play in any style you want. You can be a regular swordsman or wield destructive magic. Alongside that, there are many other skills that will aid you along your journey, like alchemy or smithing. The game is open world, so once the tutorial ends, you can choose to go wherever you want. You don’t even have to do the main quest of defeating Alduin immediately. You can choose to join a guild of thieves or choose a side in an ongoing civil war. Overall the game is a great adventure that you can choose to experience in any way you want.
In the end, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is a massive joy to play and is filled with content to keep you entertained. With its large number of bugs, however, the experience can be ruined. The game also has some balancing issues between how powerful certain skills are. Despite this, I still heavily enjoy this game and recommend it to anyone who is a fan of adventure, action, RPG, and/or open world games, as well as fans of medieval environments, worlds full of lore or people who just love magic and fantasy.
