Enter a world of luxury: fast cars, private plans, multimillion-dollar weddings and impeccably high standards. Crazy Rich Asians, the fictional book written by Kevin Kwan, gives you a glimpse into the lives of Singapore’s richest families. Rachel Chu has been dating Nicholas Young (of the Singapore Youngs, an extremely wealthy family that has amassed their enormous fortune over multiple decades) for over a year. The couple leads a normal life as college professors living in New York City, but all this is about to change when they travel to Nick’s hometown in Singapore for a trip that is life-changing in more ways than one. They are there to attend the wedding of his close friend Colin Khoo, and they will be meeting some of the most important families in Asia. Rachel soon finds out that not everyone approves of her relationship with Nicholas Young. This causes all sorts of drama.
Crazy Rich Asians is both a fun and moving book, perfect for all types of people with different interests. Not only is this book an entertaining read, it is also educational, as it teaches the reader about Singaporean culture and various traditions.
I strongly recommend this book to anyone looking for an enjoyable read that is different from the normal young adult books. I also suggest seeing the movie to help bring the book to life. With an all-Asian cast, Crazy Rich Asians lives up to the high expectations by doing every character justice with stellar casting choices and screenplay.
Crazy Rich Asians will definitely be one of my top five favourite reads of 2018, and I’m looking forward to reading all the other books in this series!
