Basketball player Matt Wainwright has been in love with his best friend Tabby Laughlin since the day she moved in across the street. From made-up movie scenes in his head to always being by Tabby’s side, his only wish is for Tabby to love him back; but then Tabby starts dating the senior basketball champ, Liam Branson. As if it isn’t bad enough watching the love of your life being swept away by another guy, Matt is forced to face a tragic accident. Matt’s picture-perfect movie starts crumbling down, affecting his game on the court, his relationships at home, and his new passion for writing. He is left to discover the truth about movies: they don’t all have perfect endings.
Laughing one minute then crying the next is the best way to describe my response to this novel; it was hilarious and heartbreaking. Though Matt's sense of humour is a big part of this novel, the book also discusses deeper topics, which is the main reason I enjoyed this book very much. Although I would recommend this book to any teenager, I would especially recommend it to anyone wanting to pick up a book that will make you laugh out loud and really think about deep topics we may not be used to discussing.
