Crooked Kingdom is the sequel to Six of Crows, a gripping novel set in the world of Grishaverse, full of thieves, murderers and the scum of the barrel.
(The summary will provide spoilers for the first book in the series, Six of Crows.)
Revisit the Barrel and the gangs that live within it. Kaz, Inej, Nina, Matthias, Jesper and Wylan previously pulled off one of the most difficult heists in the world. Running away with the money, Kuwei Yul-Bo, and much more, they feel as if they’re flying on top of the world. That is, until Inej is taken, kidnapped by Jan Van Eck, Wylan’s conniving merchant father who plans to take down Kaz and the Dregs once and for all. Kaz leads the gang in a fight to regain the Wraith, finish off Jurda Parem, and take revenge on his true enemy, Pekka Rollins. Will there be justice for Jordie?
Though Six of Crows was one of the best books I’ve read in a long time, I didn’t expect the sequel to come so close. Though it wasn’t as gripping as the first novel of this duology, it was yet again a surprisingly well-thought-out tale that had a purpose. Unlike multiple other sequels, this book wasn’t slow-paced and pointless. Leigh Bardugo artfully tied together all of the ends needed but left certain elements open for the reader's imagination.
After finishing this duology, I would suggest The Darkest Minds by Alexandra Bracken, Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas, and Carve the Mark by Veronica Roth, for a few page-turning series.
