Pop by Gordon Korman

The book Pop, by Gordon Korman, is an amazing book that will grab the attention of the reader from the moment that you pick it up. It tells an emotional story of the life of retired NFL linebacker Charlie Popovich who suffers from a debilitating mental illness. This story takes us back into the life of Charlie while telling us another story of Marcus, who just moving to a new town, meets Charlie, the “King of Pop” and the two share a bond that will result in exiting adventures.

This book really plays with your emotions as you learn the story of Charlie and why he is such good friends with Marcus. The story behind Marcus’s moving also carries with it a heavy burden for him to bear. Things do not get easier for the “King of Pop” or Marcus as he meets Troy Popovich and they instantly dislike each other. From girlfriends to family issues the all-star quarterback and the junior kid from San Francisco are on different sides of the field. The book really makes the reader wonder, “Will Marcus rick his football career and his life for the King of Pop?” You will have to read the book to find out.

I would recommend this book to readers over the age of 12 as it does contain some mature themes and many emotional scenes. Since it is such an amazing book I would definitely say that anyone over the age of 12 would enjoy this book and its positive, uplifting messages. This book would appeal to any sports lover or person in for a great read.

The author Grordon Korman has many book series and individual novels. Some of my favorites include: Masterminds, Ungifted, and Macdonald Hall. All of these have the unique flair and vivid description that all Korman novels have.
