It’s Raph’s first day of boarding school and he's ready for a fresh start. In his home town Raph is known as the gay kid whose mom is the president of PFLAG (despite the fact that he doesn’t even attend the meetings). However, he now has a fresh start, a start at a place where no one knows he’s gay. Yes, Raph has pledged to be openly straight at all costs, so that he can finally fit in with guys. Until about two seconds later, when Raph meets Ben, a smart, athletic, strong, beautiful piece of man. And Ben learns it’s a lot harder to hide who you are than he once thought.
Openly Straight is funny, while touching on issues that not just queer youth, but all youth, face. It teaches us how hard it is to hide ourselves from others, and, the importance of self-acceptance.
