“She said that she wanted to consult you about a murder she might have committed.” When his butler, George, says these words about a visitor waiting outside the door, Hercule Poirot is perplexed. Usually, people know if they have killed someone or not! Unfortunately, before he can get any more information on this mysterious girl, she leaves, announcing, “You’re too old.” In order to find out more, Poirot turns to Mrs. Oliver, an author of detective stories and a friend of his. She manages to find out the name of the girl – but not much else.
As Poirot investigates the girl’s puzzling home life with her father, stepmother, and deceased biological mother, he uncovers information that confuses him even more. Even after he hears of a death that could be attributed to the girl and prove that she did, in fact, commit a murder, he feels that there is something missing. One piece of the puzzle simply is not there, and it is up to Poirot to find it.
I recommend this novel to fans of mystery and those who love endings with an unpredictable plot twist. Agatha Christie makes it utterly impossible to guess who is involved in the crimes that take place in this fantastic novel!
