Boy Erased by Garrard Conley

Since Garrard was a kid he has been told being gay was bad, that gay people needed to be saved by God, that only God can help them. The preachers don't know it, but they’re preaching directly to Garrard. He knows he’s gay, but he’s afraid to admit it. He thinks he can push it down, ignore it, and be straight. But when Garrard goes to college, he gains independence and an opportunity to explore his sexuality and be gay. But then his parents find out and send him to ex-gay therapy, or we what we call today, conversion therapy.

In this heart-wrenching memoir Gerrard Conley retells his experience in ex-gay therapy, how he got there, and the PTSD Gerrard still deals with to this day.
