Geography Club by Brent Hartinger

In a small conservative town, closeted Russel feels all alone, relying on SMS chat groups for community. He survives school and the locker room banter by imitating the toxic masculinity he observes in the schools jocks. Russel is just going through the motions when he comes across someone on a chat group for people not just in his town, but his school. There are only two people in the group: Russel and “GayTeen,” so they do the most logical thing. They decide to meet. Little does Russel know, but GayTeen is the captain of the baseball team, jock almighty Kevin Land. Soon enough a few more unlikely queer kids make their way out of the woodwork, and end up forming a GSA, or as the rest of the school knows it, the Geography Club, a club no one in their right mind would want to join, so their secret is safe. Right?

Geography Club is a cheesy story of self-acceptance, teenage drama, and standing up for what is right.
