Kings, Queens, and In-Betweens by Tanya Boteju

Nima is a queer young girl in a not-so-queer small community where nothing much happens except the summer fair that happens every year. Nima, her best friend Charles, and her dad go every year, and this year didn't seem any different. That is, until Charles goes off to enjoy the gravity-defying rides while Nima goes to see what acts there were that night. As Nima wanders around she discovers a jaw-dropping punk poet, an enthusiastic Drag Queen, and a drag scene she didn't know existed in her town, let alone one she could participate in.

Kings, Queens, and In-Betweens is a hilarious and realistic story about queer teen romance and the original drag scene, written from the experience of the author, who spent most of her twenties as a drag king.
