Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

Jacob lives in a small town in Florida where nothing interesting happens. He works at a grocery store, his dad sits around watching TV all day, people make fun of him for his grandfather, and he goes on to live another day. That is, until Jacob goes over to his grandfather's house to find him murdered, with a giant looming creature over him. The creature looks just like the creatures from his grandfather's stories of the peculiar children he lived with in the children's home. Millard who was invisible, Emma who could create fire with her hands, Enoch who could control the dead, and more. But they were just stories, or so his parents told him, and he believes them until he travels to the island of the children's home and discovers that all the stories are true.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children is unlike any book written before. It is fantasy at the borderline of science fiction including horrific creatures, unearthly powers, mad scientists and time travel. It's an amazing story you won't be able to put down.
