1984 by George Orwell

The book was written in 1948 and is named 1984. Did George Orwell think this book was going to be the best seller around the world. First of all the book is all about reproof against communism. This is book is a dystopian type of book which means a world or land the author doesn’t want to be exist.

In the future the world is managing by 3 superstates and all of them have their own rules and propagandas. All of them keep the community under control.  Oceania, Eurasia and Eastasia. They are in balance and no one can establish superiority. Oceania is managed by the Party and Big Brother. The community of Oceania is manipulating and under pressure by that party. The community gets the information by Ministry of Truth, but the information is given to people like the way government wants - like a medicine. Sometimes they can change the past and the old information and it seems like it never happened. People are always watching and listening by telescreens every moment in their life. They can’t even think; it is a crime for them. In the book our main character, Winston Smith, is a worker at Ministry of Truth who secretly hates the Party and dreams of rebellion. We can see how complicated the Party’s order and how they disappear with all evidence of their existence remove from past.

The book which is pretty disturbing and sickly, shows us clearly personal discrepancy and the challenges under control by Party. The book demonstrates, todays parties may followed this way, can be envisaged in that years. It shows us this is not a surprise for world. It makes me to think “is the world is going like the dark way which Orwell drew?”

The reactions which Winston gives to events are in balance. Because of that it is easy to get in the book’s world and live with the characters in the book. And this proved 1984 is really good book. The events are connected with each other. The fear of what is going to happen in future is one of the reason why this book is so popular.

Winston Smith is a worker in Ministry of Truth and the reader sees the world from his point of view. At the beginning of the book we can see Winston actually hates the Party. And we can understand the way the book is going to go. Winston is so ordinary and a typical character in the book. His surname is the most common surname in England in those years. He represents the feelings in every human being, and it is for this reason that a reader hopes that things will change. Because Winston is so real, so common, it is easy for readers to identify with him and to imagine themselves in his place. During this time, there is hope for Winston, and subsequently, hope for the future. But Orwell makes certain that there is no happy ending. Totalitarianism does not permit such an ending; Winston must be crushed.

For the book all events can be true and also I think this is the most realistic stuff in the book. And that makes the book so popular because the truth, which is hidden by the words, scares people. In the book everything was connected with each other so the timeline did not go wrong. I recommend this book to everyone because 1984 can shows us how world is going to be and how are we going be live. This is book is not just for a couple of people, I think everyone should read that book in their lives at least once. I totally recommend 1984 by George Orwell.
