(Glass Sword is the second installment in the action-packed Red Queen quartet. Be warned that this review will provide spoilers for those who have not read the first installment in the series, Red Queen.)
Mare Barrow, the infamous red blooded girl with lightning coursing through her veins - known as an impossibility, a myth and a liar - manages to flee from the crown and the broken boy who wears it upon his head, escaping to the rebelling forces known as the Scarlet Guard. As her involvement in this secret organization begins to lead her down a deeper and darker path, it directs her to a shocking revelation: she is not the only one of her kind. As she becomes enamored with the idea of finding others like herself, she leads a group of rebels across the kingdoms, tracking down newbloods and pieces of the boy king's obsession for her along the way. Alongside the fiery Calore prince, her brother Shade and the secretive Captain Farley, who knows what she will discover.
However, amongst all these discoveries, will Mare be able to stop herself before she becomes the one person she hates most? Will she fight the monster sitting on the throne, or become one herself?
I guess you'll have to read more to find out.
This adventurous next installment leads the reader down into a dark world, expertly crafted to be compelling and terrifying at once. Victoria Aveyard was able to create a world unlike anything I've ever read about before, yet I can easily connect ties to the world we're living in ourselves, which I believe is the scariest thing of all. I highly recommend this entire series, as I just can't seem to put it down.
I urge you to set aside five minutes to start this series, it will turn into an hour before you know it.
