The Journey Of Little Charlie by Christopher Paul Curtis

Set in 1858, Charlie Bobo, a white 12-year-old poor sharecropper gets roped into slave catching after his father dies and leaves him in debt to a terrible plantation owner. The Journey of Little Charlie takes an interesting perspective in the times of slavery. Readers that would enjoy this most would be preteens from age ten to twelve, but it still can appeal to all. The audience got to look right into Charlie’s head and see the gears turn. He was a sympathetic but flawed character which made him really well-rounded. This unique novel is really worth your time.
