Living in a comfortable home, supported by jobs they love and their beautiful twin girls, Sylvie and Dan have made the most of the past ten years of their marriage. They even know each other so well, that it’s become a habit to finish the other’s sentences. Everything’s going seamlessly, and they’re as happy as can be. That is, until their doctor casually mentions to them that they could be together for another sixty-eight years. Suddenly things don’t seem to be so fantastic anymore.
They decide to implement Project Surprise Me. Yet, in their pursuit of keeping their marriage fresh and exciting, plenty of mishaps arise among the unexpected gifts and surprise lunch dates. Over time, these surprises transform into hard truths, and as a shocking scandal is dug up from the past, they begin to wonder if they truly know one another at all.
Surprise Me is a story full of twists and turns, as Sophie Kinsella paints a humorous but truthful picture of the realities of marriage and children. With her signature flawed but beautiful characters and honest viewpoint on life, I couldn’t stop reading. I love all things Sophie Kinsella, so as always, I suggest giving her books a try!
