Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard

The breathtaking first installment in Victoria Aveyard’s bestselling quartet, Red Queen follows Mare Barrow, a poor, thieving, red blooded girl who lives in a world divided by blood and war. She’s considered a member of the working class, born to serve the elite Silvers, those who were born with blood the colour of mercury and superhuman abilities. Yet, somehow it’s revealed that she has an ability of her own one day as she stands before the royal courts of Norta, forcing her to abandon her family for a life full of lies and secrecy.

The King and Queen reinvent Mare into the lost Princess Mareena, silver by blood but raised red, though that could not be more far from the truth. As Mare becomes intertwined with a secret organization bent on starting a revolution and the duties of being a princess, she’s forced to choose between two completely different worlds - and decide which side she wants to fight for.

Red Queen is an action-packed story full of hair-raising twists, turns and adventures that once picked up, can not be put down. I absolutely adored the originality of this world, as it felt as if I was walking beside Mare throughout her entire journey. Mare truly was a wonderfully written character, because though she was evidently flawed, it was quite easy to root for her.

I would consider Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo and The Young Elites by Marie Lu to be similar, and equally fantastic reads!

Honestly, I implore you to get your hands on a copy of this book, you will not regret it.
