In a world where prodigies – human with superpowers – were once persecuted, the Renegades, a syndicate of prodigies, now make peace reign as they succeeded in ending the chaos present during the reign of Ace Anarchy, a supervillain. Everyone seems to admire the Renegades, those superheroes wo promote justice and protect the innocent… Everyone but the few supervillains left and Nova, Ace Anarchy’s niece. With the help of a few supervillains, Nova goes undercover as a Renegades member, to take the whole Renegades organization down. There, she meets Adrian, a righteous Renegade that might make her doubt about the importance of revenge.
I had a really good time reading the first installment of this trilogy about superheroes and supervillains. One thing that struck me as really nice, is the fact that the book is really cinematographic. Indeed, I think Marissa Meyers did a good job in bringing her world into life, as it’s really easy, to picture the full-of-action, and sometimes comical scenes, while reading. The writing style is also pretty simple and easy to understand, which allows you to fully focus on the plot. Finally, I couldn’t help but love the wide cast of characters, that each have their own set of unique and endearing traits, and that leaves you wanting to be part of them.
I finished the book intrigued due to the twist at the end, and eager to continue the trilogy just to spend more time with the funny characters. I would totally recommend this book, as well as the two other books part of the trilogy, which I enjoyed just as much.
