It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover

4.5/5

I really loved this book, the plot and the true meaning of the title (the image and the name).

I liked how some of the themes reappeared from earlier on in the book to the end and the tragic love Lily and Ryle had.

Lily Bloom, who grew up in an abusive family, fell in love with a homeless boy when she was just in high school (15). But after conflict with the boy, she leaves that love behind to start a life in Boston. In Boston, 23 year old Lily Bloom, a business graduate, meets Ryle Kincaid, a neurosurgeon, on a rooftop early in the book. Sparks fly, but the two want different things for each other. Throughout the book, the author touches very sensitive topics. Colleen shows how the ones closest to you can harm you the most and to keep your morals and beliefs strong. The main lesson taught was to never let your loved ones use your weakness as a power against you.

I loved the three main characters of the book: Lily, Atlas and Ryle. Lily is a strong, charming and charismatic female. Her dedication to her business was so lovely to read. I also loved how close the author got to Lily’s emotions. It was as if the reader was by her side seeing and feeling all the emotions Lily felt too. Ryle is smart, ambitious and although a little arrogant, quite loving. The willpower he held was quite astonishing. He was very dedicated to the ones he loved and his job. Atlas was a kind, caring and responsible character. He helped Lily through so much and was there when she needed him. But his story was so heart wrenching to read.

Overall, this story was such an amazing read and touched sensitive topics perfectly, allowing the readers to digest as they went. Although I didn’t give this book a 5/5, due to how some parts could’ve been elaborated differently and should've had more time to be explained, this was written so tragically and touchingly.
