The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Barnes

The Inheritance Games is a mind-boggling, suspenseful page turner mystery book about a normal 16 year old girl and a rich family. Avery Grambs had her future all planned out. She would go to a good school, win a scholarship, and get a decent paying job. All of this is turned upside down when she is brought to the Hawthorne house. She is told that her presence is needed to read the will of Tobias Hawthorne, a billionaire she has never heard of before. When it is revealed that she is the heiress of his entire fortune, she must stay in the Hawthorne house with his entire family, whom he almost entirely wrote out of his will. Why did he choose her? Have they met before? And why a teenager?

I love how much this book kept me entertained. It had twists and turns, mind-boggling puzzles and intriguing characters. It is a classic mystery story and is guaranteed to have you wondering what happens next the whole way through. The characters are so compelling and the story brilliantly reveals more and more as the plot progresses. The whole aesthetic of this book is so comforting and classic; a perfect fall read.

I would suggest this book to readers of all ages. This book is perfect for mystery lovers and anyone who enjoys fast-paced books. If you loved this, I would suggest the movie Knives Out directed by Rian Johnson and the book One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus.
