The Bad Beginning is the first book of Lemony Snicket's 13 book series A Series of Unfortunate Events. When Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire take a trip to the beach, they don't know that they will never again be returning to their normal lives. After banker Mr. Poe informs them that their parents died in fire, they are sent to live with a mysterious Count Olaf, who is interested in the Baudelaire children's enormous fortune, and nothing else. The title of the series speaks for itself as the three children fight their way out of Olaf’s clutches.
This book is definitely a 5/5. From the minute I picked it up to when I set it down I was intrigued by the story and had to know what was coming next. Each sibling has their own unique talents that contribute to the solution of each conflict, which makes the bond of Sunny, Violet and Klaus even stronger. The story is consistent and always interesting.
The writing style of the book is also a big piece of what I adore. The consistency of defining words and the vivid descriptions are very clear and well done.
If you read this book I promise you will want to read the other books in the series, which were equally as well done and enjoyable to read.
