The Long Walk by Stephen King (Richard Bachman)

Dystopian, Horror Novel

The novel takes place in dystopian America under a militaristic and totalitarian rule, involving a grueling walking contest. The concept is simple: if you stop walking, you die. Follow the path as a group of young men attempt to be the last man standing and win the prize. With gore and horror, this twisted game will drive some mad, lead participants to question life choices, reflect upon relationships, and rethink their motivations. However, as the few near the end, is their pain and suffering truly worth the grand prize?

Stephen King does it again with another fantastic novel; in fact the Long Walk is the first story King ever wrote. With gruesome details and characters to follow, this dystopian, psychological horror novel is a fantastic book to read in one sitting.

The Hunger Games is another dystopian series, written by Suzanne Collins, that takes readers to a post-apocalyptic world of Panem. Each year, the wealthy Capitol city selects two participants, one male and one female, from each of the 12 Districts to battle within an arena until a final contender is left standing. All of this is for the enjoyment of the Capitol. Katniss Everdeen of District 12 volunteers from the Hunger Games when her younger sister is selected. Follow her journey of survival, revenge, and determination with a dash of romance. Read the trilogy or watch the movie series starring Jennifer Lawerence, Josh Hutcherson, and Woody Harrelson.
