Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo

Seventeen year old Kaz Brekker lives in the bustling city of Ketterdam, where he has been building a reputation as a thief and a trickster, and as someone who would do anything for money. So when Kaz is offered millions in order to break someone out of a prison, he decides that he wants the opportunity, despite the fact that it is the most high security prison in the world. Kaz then gathers a crew of criminals and runaways to help him, and sets out to accomplish something that everyone, even his crew, thinks is impossible.

I think this book was very well written, and the world was so well thought out, complete with a complex political and magical system. One thing that I particularly liked was the fact that none of the main characters were seen as just ‘good’ or ‘bad’ morally, but somewhere in between, and this gave all the characters a lot of depth. I feel like so much effort was put into developing the elaborate schemes that were put into action in this book, and there weren’t any plot holes or unresolved issues. Overall, the quick pacing of this story was amazing, and there was so much danger and suspense that I couldn’t put this book down!

I would recommend this book to any teens or adults who want to read a well written heist story full of very likable, well developed characters. And for a similar read complete with another group of misfits, read The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater.
