Thunderhead by Neal Shusterman

Almost a year after his failed apprenticeship, Rowan has made a name for himself as the vigilante, Scythe Lucifer. Citra, now Scythe Anastasia, is a junior scythe with non-traditional gleaning methods. As the scythedom erupts into chaos, both Citra and Rowan find themselves in unimaginable situations and the Thunderhead can do nothing but watch as it becomes more and more concerned with its “perfect” world.

Thunderhead is one of the most believable dystopian novels I’ve read. The plausibility of these events happening makes the book even more chilling. The main characters are interesting and well developed, although some of the side characters felt a bit two-dimensional. The multi-perspective element worked for most of the book, but by the end, I was wondering what happened to some of the other characters.

If you liked the dystopian part of this book, check out The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and The Maze Runner by James Dashner. If you liked the sci-fi elements, try reading A Thousand Pieces of You by Claudia Gray.
