Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo

“I am a daughter of Lethe, and the wolves are at the door.” - Alex Stern

Galaxy “Alex” Stern grew up so different from everyone at Yale. Raised in Los Angeles, high school dropout, dead end jobs, drug dealer boyfriends, shady people, and much worse, so different from the preppy rich kids at Yale. After overdosing and being the sole survivor of a horrifying, unsolved, multiple homicide, Alex is given a full ride scholarship to the prestigious Ivy League school so she can join the secret magical society Lethe. Lethe watches over the 8 Ancient Houses of the Veil and their tombs. The magical societies have turned out many very famous and powerful people and Lethe monitors their dangerous occult activities. But as the year goes on Alex realises there are far more sinister and dangerous things happening then she ever could have imagined.

This book is perfect for fans of supernatural and magical horror and murder mystery. Alex’s character is fantastic, her experience being at Yale when she comes from such a different background is beautifully written. It was hard to follow in the beginning as the timeline and perspective jump around but once you get further in it's amazing. It does have elements of horror and gore but is not over-the-top scary.
