Being one of my first contemporary romances, I think this book was a great start. On some parts, the cheesiness, comedy and romance blended together perfectly even though the genres were so different, like a rainbow or a contemporary piece of art. Enemies-to-lovers, forced proximity, a twist on comedy and romance make this a great start to the genre of YA contemporary romance.
Olive and Ethan, who are at a wedding, suddenly have a chance to go on vacation after everyone at the wedding except them gets food poisoning. But they have hated each other since Day One and think it will last until the end of eternity. On the honeymoon, both go for their own fun until many of the planned activities are for couples. Will being forced together change their thoughts about each other? Or will the honeymoon end in disaster?
I actually quite loved the characters in the book; I thought they blended well together very nicely. The details I thought were also perfect throughout the story, and the character-building was really nice.
But the thing is, is that I feel like "enemies-to-lovers" was used in a vague way. At the beginning of the book, they kept teasing each other and it was obvious that they had a connection. Also, in the end, it was definitely way too rushed. This was a major letdown for me because I really love contemporary romance books that have a nice ending at the end that ties all the details, plot and characters as well as their morals all together and this ending was not it. I like the overall meaning of it, but just no, too quick. I feel like the plot beats the ending out which is nice.
Overall, this book was a nice summer beach read! If you want to start this genre, I recommend you read this or The Hating Game or Beach Read. All have very similar energy
