This book has got me in a chokehold. This book is so far one of my absolute favourites ever. There are quotes that linger with me to this day. The characters. Wow. I loved every MC (main character) which is very suprising as in many books, some characters are very annoying.
The moral of the story is how to fight and take risks, daring for love is what is bravest for all of us to do. This is what the author herself said as well. I love how in the story, the plot of Roma and Juliette intertwined with Benedict and Marshall’s story.
I loved how Gong didn’t only focus on Roma and Juliette (the MCs) but also Rosalind, Kathleen, Marshall and Benedict. It brought their story to life and enhanced the plot so much. And Tyler, previously from the first book made me hate him so much, but after reading his perspective, my heart did open for him a bit.
The romance in this book was perfect. And you may say that nothing is perfect, but the romance here was perfect. The amount of tension and quotes they confessed to one another was also perfect. I also like how the trope isn’t only on how the guy falls for the girl first, or the girl falls for the guy, but rather so a balance of both loving each other.
I do have to say that this book isn’t a light fluffy read, but instead is a heavy plot, dark and gory.
This book was one of the most stressful reads for me, but in a way which I loved because I didn’t realize how I loved and cared for the characters so deeply. It’s crazy to think of how words on paper could make me love them so much.
The ending in the book made me cry so much. I was bawling and I knew that “these violent delights” would have to end (like the title) but not in the way that I thought. And this broke my heart. You have to read this masterpiece and I don’t care what books you’re reading right now, just do it!
Chloe Gong, this book just proved why you deserve everything in the world.
