Jujutsu Kaisen is a manga created and illustrated by Gege Akutami. The series follows the protagonist, Yuji Itadori, a teenager whose body is inhabited by Ryomen Sukuna, the King of Curses. Sentenced to death by Jujutsu sorcerer society, Yuji has to collect and consume (ew) all 20 of Sukuna’s fingers before he is eventually executed. However, some of the higher ups aren’t pleased with his deferred sentence and attempt to take things into their own hands.
This volume builds from the first and introduces us to the Jujustu Tech sister school, which adds even more interesting characters to the already impressive roster. I very quickly became emotionally invested in a lot of these characters and the story being told. The antagonist for this volume is both well-written and well-illustrated, and on a personal note, very easy to despise. This volume is worth the read and left me excited for what is coming next in this series.
Folks who enjoy JJK for the supernatural fighting aspect would likely enjoy Demon Slayer and Attack on Titan. Both are fast-paced shōnen series that focus on a young protagonist learning to fight a supernatural threat. The monsters in Demon Slayer are more like what you see in JJK, but both series are well-written.
I rate this volume 3/5 stars.
