This is my favourite book of all time. This book is told from the point of view of two separate characters whose stories intertwine. It alternates back and forth between following a young Louise Fletcher in 1700s Essex and her brother Luke. With many twists and turns you follow Louise as she becomes a ladies maid to a wealthy captain's daughter. Her young mistress who is her opposite personality fascinates and excites Louise Fletcher and as the story progresses a romance ensues. There are many surprises. You will find yourself laughing and crying all at the same time.
Trigger warning: For Sexual violence, homophobia
This book should be read by older teens/young adults and up
If you like this book I would recommend Tipping the Velvet by Sarah Waters.
