This book is a work of realistic historical fiction. All events in the story are based in reality with the characters, emotions and intentions made up by the author. It follows Mary Queen of Scots throughout her life, and her trials and tribulations. I really enjoyed this book but I don't think this is the easiest read if you have no previous understanding of the Tudor era and royal history. Our main character is brave and engaging, and I think this is a wonderful story of female leadership and empowerment.
If you enjoy this read I would suggest The Other Boleyn Girl or Three Sisters Three Queens both by Philippa Gregory.
