Seven Fallen Feathers by Tanya Talaga

The non-fiction book Seven Fallen Feathers by Tanya Talaga is an educational book that follows the deaths of seven Indigenous students attending Dennis Franklin Cromarty high school in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Racial bias in the police system, substance abuse, and systemic racism are significant themes in this book, making it helpful when writing essays. This book is a good and factual read that is an excellent source of information. It is perfect for beginners' research as it gives plenty of information on issues Indigenous communities in Northern Ontario face, such as water contamination, poverty, lack of education, and suicide epidemics.

If you enjoyed this book and are looking for another novel that has a good and absorbing plot that focuses on an Indigenous family, The Break by Katherena Vermette might be the book you are looking for.
